About the VAM
The VAM mountain, officially known as the VAM waste site, is a unique location in Drenthe, the Netherlands, and offers a special combination of environmental management and recreation. This artificial hill, originally a landfill managed by the Vuil Afvoer Maatschappij (VAM), has been transformed over the years into an attractive destination for sports and nature lovers.
With a height of approximately 48 meters above sea level, the VAM mountain offers a challenging course for cyclists and hikers. It is especially popular among cyclists, because of the steep slopes that are rare in the relatively flat Dutch landscape. The top of the mountain offers an impressive view over the Drenthe landscape, making it an attractive place for both recreationists and nature lovers.
In addition to its recreational function, the VAM mountain is also a symbol of successful landscape restoration and sustainable management . The area around the mountain has been ecologically developed, with attention to the local flora and fauna.
