Between Wijk aan Zee and the Schoorlse Duinen there is more than 7,300 hectares of dune area, the Noordhollands Dune Reserve. The diversity and varied environment of this area makes it a beautiful backdrop for a new trail from the organization of, among others, the Lighthouse Trail and the Veluwezoom Trail. The area has an extensive history and a number of well-known noble rulers such as King Willem I and the Count of Egmond. The Graef Castricum Trail is therefore a noble nod to this history. The North Holland Dune Reserve is an important water extraction area for North Holland and is managed by PWN.

About the North Holland Dune Reserve
The North Holland Dune Reserve, located in the beautiful province of North Holland, offers a spectacular setting for trail runners looking for both challenge and relaxation in nature. This extensive nature reserve, which extends from the coastline of Wijk aan Zee to Schoorl, is one of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands and offers a diversity of landscapes, from sand dunes to wooded areas and open heathland.
Trail runners can enjoy the well-maintained and clearly marked trails that wind through the reserve, ideal for both short sprints and longer distance routes. The variation in terrain makes every run challenging and engaging, with steep dunes testing your fitness and soft forest floors providing a welcome change.
In addition, the North Holland Dune Reserve is rich in flora and fauna, so runners can regularly enjoy the sight of grazing fallow deer and the unique bird species that the area has to offer. A trail run in the North Holland Dune Reserve is not only a physical challenge, but also an opportunity to escape the city bustle and enjoy the relaxing nature.
