Light cushioning in a quarter sock. There's just enough extra material underfoot to make hard ground feel softer. On long runs over gravel paths and paved sections your soles get sore less quickly.
The cuff doesn't collapse. It stays upright around your ankle, so pebbles and sand get less of a chance. On loose ground and descents the sock stays in place.
Merino wool wicks moisture. Your feet stay drier, even when you heat up on climbs or on summer days, which lowers the chance of blisters.
Choose the 1048 for long trail runs with some comfort underfoot. Want it as thin as possible? Go for the 1044 without cushioning.
