Men's Clothing

Men's trail running clothing: built for every kilometre

A shirt that clings to you, heavy with sweat, after an hour; shorts that chafe on the long climb; a jacket you take off halfway because you're boiling inside it: exactly the things that make your run worse than it needs to be. In this collection you'll find men's trail clothing that simply does what it should — from merino base layers and 2-in-1 shorts to 3-layer rain jackets and waterproof gloves. Light where possible, protective where needed.

Layers for autumn and winter: start warm, don't overheat

Cold at the start, warm after the first climb, freezing on the descent: work with layers. A merino long sleeve as a base layer regulates your temperature and stays fresh, even on long days. A half-zip, fleece hoodie or insulated gilet adds warmth you can easily unzip or take off on the go. For your legs, choose long tights with a brushed inside, and finish it off with gloves — from thin liners to fully waterproof.

Rain jacket: which one do you need?

A good men's rain jacket is the smartest investment for Dutch weather — and often mandatory kit at trail races. Look out for two things:

• Waterproof rating — 10k is fine for showers during training; choose 20k or more if you run in prolonged rain or in the mountains.
• Weight and packed size — light 2.5-layer jackets fit in your vest and you'll barely notice them; 3-layer jackets (such as Gore-Tex) are more robust for long days, strong winds and rough terrain.

Complete your protection with rain trousers for cold, wet races and long days in the mountains.

Shorts, half tights or 2-in-1: no more chafing

For warm runs and speed, go for light shorts or short tights. A 2-in-1 short combines the freedom of a loose short with inner tights that prevent chafing between the legs — worth its weight in gold over long distances. Half tights with pockets keep gels and your phone securely in place, without anything bouncing around. Up top, breathable short sleeves and singlets keep you cool, even with a vest on your back.

Underwear: small item, big difference

Often forgotten, but after a few hours of running you'll feel the difference. Seamless sports underwear wicks away sweat, stays in place and prevents chafing exactly where you least want it.

Frequently asked questions

How does men's trail clothing fit?

That depends on the brand. Many trail brands have a sporty, close-fitting cut. Torn between two sizes? Check the size chart on the product page or come and try things on in our store on the Maasstraat in Amsterdam.

Merino or synthetic: which is better?

Merino is warm, regulates your temperature well and stays fresh for longer — great for cold runs and multi-day trips. Synthetic dries faster and is often lighter, ideal for hot days and high intensity.

What's the minimum I need to start trail running?

A breathable shirt, comfortable shorts or tights and technical trail running socks. Often running in changeable weather? Then a light rain jacket is the next step.

What clothing do I need for a trail race?

Always check the race rules. Many ultra trails require a rain jacket with taped seams, rain trousers, a warm layer, a hat and gloves.
