It performs best on the hottest days and during the longest efforts. Think of a summer ultra in the Ardennes, a trail in the Alps above the tree line, or a race where the sun beats down on you all day. On a long, hot climb, you notice the difference: with a handful of ice in the neck pocket, you cool down instantly, and your shoulders and back are protected from the sun. If it gets too hot or you want to walk freely for a bit, simply roll up the shirt into its own pocket and tuck it into your belt.

If in doubt, consider how often and for what purpose you wear it.
