Smooth and well cushioned underfoot. The Challenger 8 feels soft without being sluggish and rolls easily on tarmac. Off-road it gives enough protection against stones and roots.

Made for routes that keep changing. The lugs grip well on gravel, forest paths and dry trails without feeling unsettled on the road. You notice it most when you run from your front door to the woods and keep switching surfaces along the way.

A neat, secure fit. The forefoot and instep fit more closely than on the previous version, and the soft heel collar stays comfortable on long runs. The toe box is not extra roomy; if you have wide feet, try it on first.

The Challenger 8 has more foam underfoot, a higher 8 mm drop, a new lug pattern and a closer fit around the forefoot and instep.

Is the Challenger 8 waterproof?

No, the upper is made of breathable recycled mesh. Hoka also makes a Gore-Tex version of the Challenger 8.
