A tall hiking sock for sturdy footwear. The cuff reaches mid-calf, well above the collar of a high hiking boot. The cushioning underfoot makes it full without feeling bulky.
Protection where boots tend to rub. High boots often chafe at the ankle and shin, and that's exactly where this sock sits between your skin and the boot. You notice it most on long descents and multi-day trips, when your boots stay on all day.
Warm enough for autumn and winter. The merino wool holds on to warmth and wicks moisture, even on wet and cold days. If you wear low shoes or mostly hike in summer, a micro crew like the 1974 Number 2 is a better choice.
The tall sock for boots and cold weather. In low shoes it misses the point.
