Trail running trainers and coaches

Want to take your trail running to the next level? Would you like to work with a coach? The internet is brimming with personal trainers. Below are a few coaches who can help you. We've personally contacted all of these coaches and are confident in recommending them to you.

Jeroen Kuyper

Do you want to run stronger, faster, and with more enjoyment? Whether you're training for your first trail run, a sub-three-hour marathon, or an ultra challenge, I'll help you achieve your goal. I'm Jeroen Kuyper, an ultra runner and certified running and trail running coach. I started running later in life, but I grew from 3 km to 200 km races. I use that experience to help you train smarter and more effectively. Every Saturday morning, I lead trail running training sessions in the dunes of North Holland for a small, friendly group of trail runners. I started with beginner runners from my running group. This has since become their favorite training time of the week, thanks to the challenging workouts and the most beautiful trails. You can find the calendar with dates and locations on my website. You can register for each training session. Sign up quickly, because space is limited! I also coach groups and companies working together towards a competition. Looking for a coach who doesn't just create schedules but actually helps you progress?

Trail running is accessible. Put on your shoes, some comfortable clothing, and you're ready to go. But what about the technique, how do you implement a plan, and what else is involved, such as trail-specific (strength) exercises? Do you simply follow the plan, or do you need to adjust it while you're pursuing your goal?

Anyone who seriously wants to enjoy trail running would be wise to hire a trail running coach. We believe in one-on-one coaching if you truly want to work on yourself. We'll closely monitor your progress and adjust it where necessary. This might include video analysis or exercises that truly resonate with you. So, responsibly work on your running fitness for your trail event or ultimate mountain trail.

As a Trail Running coach, we can help you get started and keep you motivated. Based on your goals and wishes, we'll create a program together. We'll guide you through trail running-specific exercises, a personalized running schedule, and a personal training session—all of which you can monitor via the online TrainingPeaks app.

In short: let's make a plan together and prepare yourself for beautiful trails through nature.

Alex Gijsbers

Alex Gijsbers (born 1965). I've been active in athletics for over 30 years. Given my physique, my coach at the time quickly suggested that sprinting and short distances would be my thing. Naturally, I heeded his wise words. In connection with my work in Switzerland at the time, I took my first steps as a sprint coach and obtained my first athletics diplomas there. Then, in the Netherlands, I continued my development as a coach with the necessary diplomas and further training. But I also became addicted to the mountains there. What is now called "trail running" was simply called "berglauf" (mountain skiing). As a runner, I've done everything between sprinting and ultra-running.

I've been hooked on mountain skiing for about 20 years! Unfortunately, trail running is no longer an option for me. A worn-out knee is the culprit. But this one did last 81,000 km.

As a trainer, I'm always on the move and often wonder how things could be improved or changed. That's why I started Running Bootcamp about ten years ago. It's a short, self-developed series of strength training sessions designed to make you, as a runner, more resilient, stronger, and faster. It's done without equipment, but entirely with our own bodies and the elements we encounter along the way. I provide continuing education to trainers and athletes in this injury-free style of running. I've personally run many marathons, trails, and ultra-trails, both at home and abroad.

I've been active as a running coach for about 30 years, and for the past eight years, I've also been a trail running coach for various running groups and athletics clubs. I coach both basic and advanced trail running. I also work as a running and fitness coach for various (professional) sports clubs in football, rugby, and hockey. I'm also a personal trainer and can help you achieve your goals, either individually or in groups. Whether that's for your first 10k or a 300km ultra trail run.

I'm always looking to keep my runners engaged in the lessons I teach. Besides being a trainer, I definitely consider myself an "entertainer" as well. After all, without runners, there's no trainer.

For many years active as a certified practical supervisor and trainer for the Athletics Union for the level 2 and 3 courses (BLT 2 and 3) and Running Trainers Netherlands for the Trail Running Trainer 1 and 2 programs. For me, leading training and clinics is truly a passion, and I love it. It's my biggest hobby. I also own Alex Gijsbers Personal Training.

I guide runners on their running adventures for various travel organizations through workshops, personal coaching, and training programs. I do this worldwide. I love it!
