Aimed at losses through sweat. The capsules mainly deliver sodium and chloride, supplemented with potassium and magnesium. That suits long efforts where drinking water alone does not always replace enough.

Most noticeable during long and hot sessions. When running for hours, on steep climbs or in high temperatures, you lose more and more fluid and minerals through sweat. Later in a long trail run or ultra, a fixed electrolyte strategy becomes more relevant.

Practical without a sports drink. Capsules are easy to carry and give you control over your intake without sugar, sweeteners or flavourings. Handy if you already get your energy from gels, bars or other food.
