The mask feels thin and supple and fits nicely around your face. The mesh section for your mouth allows air to pass through, so breathing feels less stuffy than through a regular buff. Because it comes in two sizes, it doesn't keep sliding down while running.

It comes into its own best on cold, dark days. Think of an evening run through the city, an early training session along the Amstel, or a winter trail where the wind has free rein. In the first cold kilometers, you notice it immediately: the air you breathe feels less crisp, and your cheeks and nose stay warm. As soon as a headlight or car headlight falls on you, the reflective material lights up.

If in doubt, look at how fast you are running. At high intensity, you want to be able to breathe freely, so you will quickly pull the mask down. In severe frost, a thicker neck warmer or balaclava is warmer. If you mainly run at a leisurely pace in the cold and dark, this is a smart addition.
