Keeps moisture out better. The GORE-TEX upper is designed for rain, wet grass, muddy paths, and cold conditions. You will notice this especially during long runs when your feet would otherwise cool down or get wet.

Instills confidence as fatigue sets in. The grip and protective construction help on rocky sections, loose terrain, and longer descents. You particularly notice the benefit of the extra cushioning and stability later in an ultra or long mountain training run.

Choose these for long, wet, and rough trails. For dry, short, or fast races, a lighter trail shoe makes more sense.
