Moraine trail 2024

Stuwwaltrail 2024 - Trail.nl
This 21-kilometer trail passes through perhaps the most beautiful part of the Netherlands, with its old estates and significant elevation changes. The route winds along narrow paths over the moraine. The climbs are challenging, but panoramic views follow. That's what makes the Moraine Trail so special.

The trail passes through a unique landscape that we value. That's why the Stuwwaltrail is cup-free. We want to prevent plastic cups and residual waste from energy gels and bars from being left behind along the trail. So please bring your own water bottle to use at the two drink stations along the way. And don't leave anything behind in nature.

The start and finish are at the Hartenstein sports park in Oosterbeek.
The route will be available as a .gpx file on this website on Saturday, May 20.

About the moraine

The moraine near Oosterbeek, located in the province of Gelderland, is a geological wonder that bears witness to the ice ages that shaped the Netherlands. This moraine is a remarkable feature in the landscape and offers a unique environment for nature lovers and history buffs.

The moraine was formed during the penultimate ice age, some 150,000 years ago, when powerful glaciers pushed enormous quantities of sediment forward, creating the characteristic hills and valleys. The result is a rolling terrain with beautiful vistas and picturesque forests.

This area is not only of geological importance, but it also played a crucial role in history, particularly during the Battle of Arnhem in World War II. The Airborne Cemetery in Oosterbeek commemorates the events of that time and attracts many visitors every year.

Today, the moraine near Oosterbeek offers opportunities for hiking, cycling, and exploring nature. Its picturesque surroundings and historical significance make it a fascinating destination for anyone who wants to experience the beauty of nature and the legacy of the past. It's a place where geology and history converge in enchanting harmony.
