Moraine trail 2024

Stuwwaltrail 2024
This 21 kilometer long trail goes through perhaps the most beautiful part of the Netherlands. With old estates and large height differences. The trail meanders over the moraine over narrow paths. The climbs are tough, but afterwards there are panoramic views. That makes the Stuwwaltrail special.

The trail goes through a unique landscape that we take great care of. That is why the Stuwwaltrail is cup-free. We want to prevent plastic cups and residual waste from energy gels and bars from being left along the route. Therefore, bring your own water bottle to use at the two drinks stations along the way. And don't leave anything behind in nature.

The start and finish is at Hartenstein sports park in Oosterbeek.
The route is available on Saturday, May 20 as .gpx file on this website.

About the Stuwwal

The moraine near Oosterbeek, located in the province of Gelderland, is a geological wonder that bears witness to the ice ages that shaped the Netherlands. This moraine is a remarkable feature in the landscape and provides a unique environment for nature lovers and history buffs.

The moraine was formed during the penultimate ice age, about 150,000 years ago, when powerful glaciers pushed forward enormous amounts of sediment , which created the characteristic hills and valleys. The result is rolling terrain with beautiful views and picturesque forests.

Not only does this area have geological importance, but it also played a crucial role in history, most notably during the Battle of Arnhem in World War II . The Airborne cemetery in Oosterbeek recalls the events of that time and attracts many visitors every year.

Today, the moraine near Oosterbeek offers opportunities for walking, cycling and nature exploration. Its picturesque surroundings and historical significance make it a fascinating destination for anyone who wants to experience the beauty of nature and the legacy of the past. It is a place where geology and history come together in enchanting harmony.
