Stuwwaltrail 2024

Stuwwaltrail 2024 - Trail.nl
This 21 kilometre long trail goes through perhaps the most beautiful part of the Netherlands. With old estates and large differences in height. The course winds over the moraine on narrow paths. The climbs are tough, but then panoramic views follow. That makes the Stuwwaltrail special.

The trail goes through a unique landscape that we are careful with. That is why the Stuwwaltrail is cup-free. We want to prevent plastic cups and residual waste from energy gels and bars being left along the trail. So bring your own water bottle to use at the two drink stations along the way. And don't leave anything behind in nature.

The start and finish are at the Hartenstein sports park in Oosterbeek.
The route will be available as a .gpx file on this website on Saturday 20 May.

About the moraine

The moraine at Oosterbeek, located in the province of Gelderland, is a geological wonder that bears witness to the ice ages that shaped the Netherlands. This moraine is a remarkable feature in the landscape and offers a unique environment for nature lovers and history buffs.

The moraine was formed during the penultimate ice age, some 150,000 years ago, when powerful glaciers pushed enormous quantities of sediment forward, creating the characteristic hills and valleys. The result is a rolling terrain with beautiful views and picturesque forests.

This area is not only of geological importance, but it also played a crucial role in history, especially during the Battle of Arnhem in World War II. The Airborne Cemetery in Oosterbeek commemorates the events of that time and attracts many visitors every year.

Today, the moraine at Oosterbeek offers opportunities for hiking, biking and nature exploration. Its picturesque surroundings and historical significance make it a fascinating destination for anyone who wants to experience the beauty of nature and the legacy of the past. It is a place where geology and history come together in enchanting harmony.
