The unique blend and precise ratios of complex carbohydrates, proteins, healthy fats and essential help
Perpetuem can be used during endurance events where you can carry a water bottle or water bottle. It meets the body's energy needs, no matter how long or difficult your training session or competition is.
Perpetuem 2.0 meets your body's energy needs when exercising for more than three hours. The unique blend and precise ratios of complex carbohydrates, proteins, healthy fats and important supporting
Rigorously tested and proven in the world’s toughest events since 2002, Perpetuem 2.0 has been vastly improved by replacing corn maltodextrin with tapioca maltodextrin. The names may sound similar, but these two carbohydrates are worlds apart! With much less processing, no GMO content, lower sodium and higher naturally occurring potassium, a more alkaline pH and lower mono and disaccharide content/much higher percentage polysaccharide content (thanks to the lower Dextrose Equivalent), tapioca is the sugar and corn alternative we’ve been waiting for years and it’s finally here!
Whether you've been using Perpetuem for 20 years or are thinking about trying it for the first time, you'll be impressed with this 2.0 version, guaranteed!
The Caffé Latte flavor contains 30 mg of caffeine per serving.
WHY DID YOU SWITCH TO A TAPIOCA-DERIVED MALTODEXTRIN?
Our carbohydrate fuels used to use corn maltodextrin (complex carbohydrates), which was actually a very good maltodextrin. However, we found that tapioca (cassava root) derived maltodextrin offered the following advantages over corn derived maltodextrin, so we made the switch:
Tapioca requires much less processing than corn.
Unlike corn, tapioca naturally contains no GMO content, so while all of the corn-derived maltodextrin we used in our products tested 0ppb for GMOs, tapioca saves us the trouble.
Tapioca maltodextrin naturally has lower amounts of sodium and higher amounts of naturally occurring potassium. Since most people already consume too much sodium, having more potassium and less sodium is definitely a plus.
Tapioca maltodextrin has a more alkaline pH than corn derived maltodextrin. Since we athletes are "acid producing machines" during exercise, a more alkaline pH is a very desirable attribute/benefit during exercise.
Tapioca maltodextrin has a lower Dextrose Equivalent (DE), which means lower mono and disaccharide (short-chain sugar) content, and a much higher percentage of polysaccharide (complex carb) content--in essence, a more “complex” complex carbohydrate--for even longer-lasting energy and endurance.
Tapioca maltodextrin has a lower Dextrose Equivalent (DE), meaning it has lower mono- and disaccharide (short chain sugar) content.
- Do your performances last less than 2 hours? We recommend that you instead HEED Electrolyte Sports Drink to use.
- Do you prefer gels over powder? We recommend that you Hammer Energy Gel to take.
- Prefer solid carbohydrates? We recommend that you Hammer Energy Bar to take.
What is Maltodextrin?
Maltodextrin is a complex carbohydrate that is ideal for providing fast-acting, long-lasting energy during exercise. It provides steady and reliable energy (no sugar crashes) and gives you the constant and consistent energy release you need when cycling or running. That's why it's one of the main ingredients of Perpetuem Sports Drink.
Perpetuem: Long Lasting Energy for Endurance Sports - Benefits
- Energy, mental focus and less muscle fatigue thanks to a calculated ratio of complex carbohydrates, proteins and healthy fats
- It can be your primary source of calories during exercise/competition
- Protects lean muscle mass
- Promotes normal blood sugar levels with the composition of trace elements
- Contains maltodextrin for smooth, consistent energy release for endurance (no sugar "ups-'n'-downs")!
Triathlon and marathon athletes, cyclists and other endurance athletes may benefit from using Perpetuem during training or competitions lasting more than 3 hours.
Sports Drink Powder with 8:1 complex carbohydrates to proteins
Unless you carbohydrate source supplemented with proteins will your body after about 90 minutes heavy exertion digest its own muscle tissue (for proteins) for energy.
The protein in Perpetuem doesn't start working until after 90 minutes, so use it during workouts lasting longer than 2-3 hours.
Perpetuem goes beyond hydration. Its unique blend and precise ratios of essential help
Instructions for use
- Mix with water and drink during exercise.
- Use during efforts lasting more than 2-3 hours.
NB: 1 serving is not equal to 1 scoop.
Check the table below to see how many scoops/calories you need of this product for your body weight. For example, if you weigh between 55-70 kg, you should take one scoop per hour. If you are going to exercise for 4 hours, this means you need 4-6 scoops of Perpetuem.
WEIGHT | MEASURING SPOONS | KILOCALORIES |
Up to 55 kg | Up to 1 scoop / hour | About 90 Kcal |
55 - 70 kg | 1 - 1.5 scoops / hour | 90 - 135 Kcal |
70 - 86 kg | 1.5 - 1.75 scoops / hour | 135 - 160 Kcal |
86+ kg | Up to 2 scoops/hour | 180 Kcal |
*These are estimated doses. Each athlete must determine his personal optimum during training, under different conditions.
Consuming more calories than you need can cause nausea and stomach pain
Keep our motto in mind: Less is Best!
Let's say you weigh between 55-70 kg. That means you need about 90-135 kcal per hour. For example, if you want to mix Energy Gel with HEED, you can get 80 calories from an Energy Gel and 40 from HEED.
You still get the right amount of calories you need, around 90-135 kcal, but you are using different fuels. When you mix, don't go over your recommended calories per hour. Too many calories can damage your stomach.
1 scoop is approximately 90 calories.
Important information about spoilage
Due to potential spoilage issues, Perpetuem cannot be premixed and stored for several hours in warm weather.
Neither Perpetuem nor Sustained Energy contains artificial preservatives as such agents provide no benefits for athletic performance or overall health.
As a result, the protein component in both Perpetuem and Sustained Energy - once mixed into solution - is affected in the following ways:
- At some point it will become sour and no longer fit for consumption.
- It tends to curdle after a few hours and can settle to the bottom of a bottle or the bladder of a hydration pack.
We believe that not having artificial preservatives in our products is far more important than these two inconveniences; however, these are factors that you should consider when using Perpetuem or Sustained Energy to take.
Sports Drink Bottle Preparation Tips:
The sports drink bottle for 1 hour
Mix the recommended amount of Perpetuem for your body weight (see table above) in 475 - 825 ml of water. Consume one bottle per hour.
This method is ideal when training or racing with a support crew and vehicle. If you don't have a support crew but still want to use this option to mix, keep in mind that this is of course less convenient, as you will have to stop more often to mix your energy powders.
Additionally, because you are trying to meet both your hydration and calorie needs from one source, you have limited ability to adjust one without affecting the other; you may need to consume additional water to meet your hydration needs.
The sports drink bottle for a few hours
This is by far the most convenient way to maintain your energy needs during exercise. It allows you to be self-sufficient for many hours, while only needing extra clean water along the way. The only limitation is how many scoops fit in a bottle. Determine the correct number of scoops per hour by experimenting with the numbers from the dosage table.
Let’s say you’ve determined through testing that 1.5 scoops of Perpetuem per hour is your ideal calorie intake. For a 4 hour workout, you’ll need (4 x 1.5 =) six scoops in a bottle, filled with water, and shaken. You may need to add a few scoops at a time to mix everything together. Then, take small sips every 15-20 minutes. At this concentration, the water you used for this sports drink will not contribute to your hydration needs.
To meet your hydration needs, you’ll need a second and possibly even a third bottle filled with plain water. You can also use a hydration system or points along the route where you can refill your bottle. Depending on the temperature/humidity and your exertion level, drink 16 to 28 ounces of water per hour. As long as you can get water along the way, you’ll be set for hours of hard training this way.
Tips for preparing gel or paste
If you want to pack the most calories into the least amount of space, making a thick mix is your best bet. Perpetuem can be made into a super concentrated, almost paste-like consistency and can be carried around in a Hammer Gel Flask.
Using a blender or a bowl and spoon, mix powder balls with a small amount of water, gradually adding water as needed to achieve desired consistency. If using one of the flavored Perpetuems, remember that the heavier and more concentrated you mix it, the sweeter and stronger the flavor will be.
You can also add Hammer Gel or HEED for flavor if desired. Depending on how many scoops you need per hour and how concentrated the mix is, each bottle of Perpetuem can provide you with 2-4 hours of fuel. As with the bottle you use for a few hours, bring extra bottles of water or use a hydration system to meet your fluid needs.
